Infographic: World Wide Insurance
World Wide Healthcare Insurance Statistics
Canada stacks up very well against worlds to healthcare nations
As seen in this infographic, Canada is doing very well with its universal healthcare system. Even though we have fewer doctors per thousand people in the country other key indicatory of our healthcare system show Canada doing very well:
- Life expectancy in Canada is near the top in the world
- Infant mortality is extremely low
- Per capita expenditure on health care is about half that of the US
- Government spends 16.7% of its revenue on health care compared to 18.5% in the US
- Almost 70% of all healthcare costs in Canada are paid by the government (compared to about 45% of costs covered by US government)
- Healthcare costs are a manageable 10.1% of national GDP but are up to 16% of GDP in the US
This graph seems to support the idea that private healthcare does not improve the health of the average citizen but does increase the costs of healthcare dramatically. Canadians might want to think twice before opting to get rid of universal healthcare or bring in some sort of two tiered system. It would only really benefit the rich and the majority of Canadians would have a lower quality of healthcare and probably pay more for it.
